How to use Instagram ads for Advertising your Business

With over 1 billion+ monthly users, Instagram prides itself as one of the best business marketing tools around today. And as you might expect, there are lots of opportunities for business owners to get the word out about their brands on the platform, including influencer marketing, sponsored ads like Instagram advertising, paid ad techniques like buy IG likes, and Instagram content marketing.

But for the scope of this post, we’ll only be discussing one of them, which is the Instagram ads technique.

Read on to discover all you need to know about how you can advertise your business using this technique.

What are Instagram ads?

Instagram ads are content (IGTV, Stories, and posts) that businesses pay to promote their brands into the feeds of users. When they’re displayed on users’ feeds, they appear just like regular posts. But they can be differentiated from regular posts by their “Sponsored” tag, which is placed right on top of them.

Normally, for a business to advertise their products or promote their brand through the IG ads feature, they’ll need to apply through the “Ads Manager” button on Facebook or through the page of an existing post on the IG app. But like every other social media sponsored ad campaign, advertising your business through IG ads isn’t free.

How much do Instagram ads cost?

Unfortunately, I’m afraid we cannot give you a specific figure because several factors impact the cost of Instagram ads, including:

• The magnitude of the audience you’re targeting
• Ad placement
• Ad format
• Timing

According to AdEpresso, however, the average cost per click for most Instagram ads in the last few years is $1.20. But one thing you should know is that you can run an Instagram advert campaign with almost any budget, at least that’s what Facebook (Instagram’s parent company) recently said.

“You tell us how much you want to spend on advertising, and we try to get you as many results as possible for that amount.”

How to set up an Instagram ad campaign

You can set up your Instagram ad campaign using any of these two formats:

• Post promotion of existing post within Instagram
• Promotion through Facebook’s Ads Manager

How to set up your Instagram ad by promoting an existing post

If you have a post that’s performing extremely well in terms of engagement on IG, you can choose to launch your IG ads using this post. But first, you’ll need to switch to a business account before you can access this feature.

Under the post you’re looking to promote, you’ll see a “Promote” button. Click on this button to tell Instagram how you’ll like your post to be promoted. Some of the boxes you’ll have to check will include who you want to see your ad, where you want to send them, how much you intend to spend, and for how long you want to run the ad.

Alternatively, you can set up your Instagram ads through Facebook’s Ads Manager. Unlike the post promotion option, the Facebook ads manager feature offers a far greater customization options.
