झरना – जलप्रपात commonly formed in the upper course of a river or occur over bedrock with a wide range of widths and depths. The following is a list of most famous waterfalls in India by states.

नोहकलिकाई झरना, मेघालय

Nohkalikai Falls near Cherrapunji in Meghalaya is the tallest plunge waterfall in India by height 340 metres. Cherrapunji and nearby Mawsynram are wettest place on Earth.

दुधसागर जलप्रपात, गोवा

Dudhsagar Falls on the Mandovi river is located inside the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary Mollem National Park of Goa. The four-tiered waterfall is surrounded by green dense forests with rich biodiversity and listed among the tallest waterfalls in India by height.

जोग झरना, कर्नाटक

Jog Falls on the Sharavati river is the second highest plunge waterfall in India, located in the Shimoga district of Karnataka. The falls are major tourist attraction of Karnataka, situated on the borders of Shimoga and North Kanara, Talguppa is the nearest railway station.

चित्रकूट जलप्रपात, छत्तीसगढ़

Chitrakote Falls on the Indravati river near Jagdalpur in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh is the widest fall in India by width of nearly 300 metres. The natural waterfall often called as the Niagara Falls of India and one of two most beautiful waterfalls of Chhattisgarh, located in the Kanger Valley National Park, other one is Teerathgarh Falls.

Athirappilly Falls is the largest waterfall in Kerala stands tall at 80 feet on the Chalakudy river. Meenmutty Falls, Athirappilly and Vazhachal Falls are another most famous waterfalls in Kerala and have been used for several Malayalam films.

धुआंधार जलप्रपात, मध्य प्रदेश

Dhuandhar Falls on the Narmada river in Bhedaghat of Jabalpur is also famous for white marble rocks and deep valley. The Dhuandhar Falls means a waterfall where we get smoke like feeling of water vapours or the smoke cascade.

होगेनक्कल जलप्रपात, तमिलनाडु

Hogenakkal Falls on the Kaveri river in Tamil Nadu is also referred to as the Niagara Falls of India, also known for Carbonatite rocks and boat rides. Coracles in Hogenakkal falls is a major tourist attraction along with Carbonatite rocks.

थोसेघर जलप्रपात, महाराष्ट्र

Thoseghar waterfalls of Maharashtra is located 20 km from Satara city and one of the tallest falls in the state along with Vajrai Waterfall, Kune Falls and Pandavgad Falls. Satara city is located near the confluence of the river Krishna and Venna, surrounded by seven mountains and famous for Kas plateau valley of flower.

नोहसिंगिथियांग झरना, मेघालय

Nohsngithiang Falls also known by Mawsmai Falls or Seven Sisters Waterfalls, in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. The fall listed as one of the tallest waterfalls in India by height of 315 metres and must see waterfalls in Meghalaya along with Nohkalikai Falls and Langshiang Falls.

बरेहीपानी झरना, ओडिशा

Barehipani Falls in Simlipal National Park of Odisha is one of the highest waterfalls in India and highest water fall in Odisha state. The waterfall on the Budhabalanga river locatd inside the Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district.
