In India textile sector is the second largest employment provider after agriculture. It contributes significant percentage of net foreign exchange earning of the country. Fashion technology offers professional educations in the field of design, technology and management of fashion, textile and apparel industry.

So here’s list of top 10 Government and private fashion designing institutes/colleges in India

1.National Institute of Fashion Technology-[NIFT],DELHI

Set up in 1986, NIFT is the pioneering institute of fashion education in the country and has been in the vanguard of providing professional human resource to the textile and apparel industry. The institute initially started with only one program of fashion designing in its first session. Currently, there are sixteen campuses and the NIFT, Delhi is the main campus (Headquarter and University head office). The institute offers various programs under design, management, and technology for the international fashion business. There are different buildings for different departments and separate IT labs are given to each department. Some of the highlights are mentioned below:

Campus:

-The classrooms are big enough to accommodate a good number of students and are well furnished.

-The labs and libraries are well maintained. The computers are well connected through LAN and the library consists of a large number of informative books. The books are of the latest edition. And the library is equipped with the latest technology with all the instruments working in a proper condition.

-Hostel facilities are given to the students coming from out of the city. Though currently, the institute does provide only Girls’ hostel and no hostel facility for boys is available.

-The food provided at the cafeteria is of good quality and pocket-friendly too. It has a large variety of food including North Indian and South Indian food.

2.National Institute of Fashion Technology-[NIFT], NAVI MUMBAI

National Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai was established in 1995. Later on, the institute received the status of “Institute of Excellence.’’ This autonomous institute has developed an association with foreign universities as well.

NIFT Mumbai offers many fashion courses on different academic levels such as undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate. These courses include B. Des, B.F. Tech, M. Des., M.F.M. etc. All these courses are offered in full-time options and include subjects like Fashion Communication, Fashion Management, Apparel Production etc.

Since its establishment, the institute is working on creating geniuses in the fashion industry by delivering them the knowledge of handlooms and handicrafts.

NIFT Bangalore courses offered both at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level of study. It offers a B.Des and B.F.Tech course with a duration of four years. NIFT college Bangalore also offers Master of Design Space or M.Des, Master of Fashion Technology or M.F.Tech and Master of Fashion Management or MFM with a duration of two years at the Postgraduate level of study. Established in 2004, Symbiosis Institute of Design offers UG design courses in eight specialisations to students. The four major disciplines in which SID offers BDes course are Communication Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design and Fashion Communication.

10. National Institute of Design – NID, AHMEDABAD
