You have done a good job by bringing these10 Famous Hill Top Temples of Goddess Durga (Shakti) to the fore.
Tara Tarini Sthana Peeth (Breast Shrine) is situated on the holy Taratarini hill (Purnagiri) at a distance of 30 km from Berhampur city in the state of Orissa, India. The Twin Goddesses Tara and Tarini are worshiped as manifestations of Adi Shakti. The Taratarini Hill Shrine is one of the oldest pilgrimage centers of Mother Goddess and is one amongst the four major ancient Shakti Peethas in India. The mythological texts recognize four major Shakti Peethas, i.e. Tara Tarini (Stana Khanda) (Breast Shrine) near Berhampur, Bimala (Pada Khanda) inside the [[Jagannath Temple (Puri), Kamakshi (Yoni khanda) near Guwahati, Assam and Dakhina Kalika (Mukha khanda) in Kolkata, West Bengal among the four Adi Shakti Peeths. Apart from these, there are 52 other sacred Shakti Peethas, which originated from the limbs of the corpse of Mata Sati in the Satya Yuga.

The great religious texts including the Shiva Purana, the Kalika Purana, the Devi Bhagabat and the AstaShakti recognize four major Shakti Peethas (centers). The Astashakti and Kalika Purana clearly says (IN SANSKRIT):

      Bimala Pada khandancha,
      Sthana khandancha Tarini (Tara Tarini),
      Kamakshya Yoni khandancha,
      Mukha khandancha Kalika (Dakshina Kalika)
      Anga pratyanga sanghena
      Vishnu Chakra Kshyta nacha……………

  • Ranjit says:

There is a photo of a huge Goddess Durga idol with the lion behind her on a platform with pillars all around and situated near a waterfall. Which is this temple? where is it situated?

  • Arun Kochhar says:

why Ma Durga temples in India are on hill tops any reasons

    • Kamal says:

Sir I Don’t know the accurate answer of your question, but we can’t call all the temples of mother goddesses as Durga Temples. I believe we can divide the temples of mother goddesses in two broad divisions. that are 1. Shakti temples and 2. Durga temples . Shakti temples are originated from the corpse of Mata Sati in Satya yuga. As per Puranas, there are 4 Adi Shakti Piths, 18 Maha Shakti Piths and 51 Shakti Piths present in various parts of India and even out side India. where as Durga temples are representing Goddesses Parvati.

      • Kamal says:

Except these Adi Shakti, Maha Shakti and Shakti piths all other temples are Durga Temples. It is believed that the Shakti Piths originated during the Vedic period so they are Vedic goddesses, representing the Adi Shakti and having a history of thousands of years old but all other goddesses temples are the creation of post-Puranic period and represents Parvati the second spouse of Lord Siva.

    • because Aai Bhawani is referred to as Daughter of the Mountain in some scriptures (like in Mahishasura Mardini Strotam: “Jaya Jaya hey Mahishasura mardini, Ramya kapardini, shaila Suthe” )

  • Kamal says:

You have covered all the important hill temples and destinations of Mother goddesses. All these above destinations are ancient places of worship. But I think you left one important place of ‘Maa kamakhya temple’, Guwahati, Assam. You please add this place as the 11th destination in your portal.
