Durgotsava or Durga Puja is annual Hindu festival, celebrates worship of the Hindu goddess Durga, the most popular incarnation of Devi and one of the main forms of the Goddess Shakti. Durga Puja festival marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the evil buffalo demon Mahishasura,
widely celebrated in the Indian states of West Bengal and the biggest Hindu festival celebrated throughout the state. The most famous Kolkata Durga Puja pandals are Bagbazar,Kumartuli Park,College Square,Mohammad Ali Park,Santosh Mitra Square,Badamtala Ashar Sangha and
Suruchi Sangha.

Cooch Behar-Oldest Durga Pujas

Cooch Behar host one of the oldest Durga pujas of Bengal and the gigantic sized Durga sculpture is known as Borodebi. Many buffaloes, goats, pigeons are sacrificed in front of the deity by the royal family of Cooch Behar.

Hundreds of puja pandals are set up every year in the Berhampore and all pandal are decorated with lights and sounds. Kadai, Swargadham, Ajana Sangha, Cossimbazar Choto Rajbari are famous and the oldest durga puja from this area.

Jalpaiguri

Being one of the oldest cities of Colonial Bengal, it host Durga puja with a great pomp in several places from more than a century. The oldest puja of the town is the Puja of Baikunthapur Rajbari.
