Ramadan – Festival of Breaking The Fast

Eid ul Fitr is celebrated to break the month-long fast of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. A month of fasting when people don’t eat and drink during the day. Festival of Breaking of the Fast, occurs as soon as the new moon is sighted at the end of the month of fasting. During the month of Ramadan all Muslims do fasting, feasting, worship and prayer. It is a very big festival for all the Muslims in the world. Muslims of India along with the other Muslims in the world celebrate Eid ul Fitr to their best.

In India, the night before Eid is called Chaand Raat, which means night of the moon. People often visit bazaars and shopping malls for the last minute Eid shopping. Women and young girls paint their hands with traditional temporary tattoos also known as Henna or Mehndi and wear colorful bangles. New clothes, gifts and Eidi are traditional way to celebrate Eid ul Fitr.

Best food to eat during ramadan are fruits and mixed nuts as a snack, Drink lots of water. During the sacred month of Ramadan, Sevai is a most important dish in every day menu. Sevai is a kid friendly dish and very easy to prepare, this is eaten during dinner as a dessert. Sweets are also an important part of Ramadan food.
