The 5 Big Tunnels in India

As of now there are not so many tunnels in India, so currently India is one of the fastest growing markets for tunnels, flyovers and cloverleaf. Indian Railways network is one of the largest rail network in the world,even road network of India is also on the way to go big. These transport networks has long bridges, big flyovers and a collection of road and rail tunnels in India. Most of the rail tunnels in India are located in the Western Ghat and so many under construction on different mountain ranges across the country.

Tunnels on amazing expressway and highways of India are the part of the Golden Quadrilateral Project,The biggest road network project. Underground and air metro railway in Delhi is one of the big star on the Indian transport network, Kolkata is very soon going to have India’s first under-river tunnel and India’s longest railway tunnel that is Pir Panjal tunnel is recently passed its train trials in Jammu and Kashmir, a great achievement for Indian rail network.

Pir Panjal Tunnel – 11.2 km(Longest Railway Tunnels of India)

The 11.2 km long Banihal railway tunnel is India’s longest railway tunnel and and Asia’s 2nd longest railway tunnel.

Atal Tunnel (Rohtang Tunnel) – 8.8 km

Rohtang Tunnel under the Rohtang Pass in the Leh-Manali Highway is the 8.8 km long road tunnel and will be the second longest tunnel road in India and World’s highest Road Tunnel.

Karbude Tunnel

Karbude Tunnel is the longest rail tunnel in India located on the Konkan Railway route near Ratnagiri in Maharashtra. The Karbude tunnel is 6.5 km long and one of the India’s biggest engineering marvels.

Ratnagiri region is full of lush greenery and more, it is well famous for for different varieties of Mangoes. Konkan Railway runs from Mangalore in Karnataka to Mumbai in Maharashtra through Goa, along the west coast of India and Western Ghats.

Ghat Ki Guni Tunnel

Ghat Ki Guni’ Tunnel in Jaipur, on on Jaipur Agara Highway is a 2.8 km long, that offers an alternative route to connect the Rajasthan capital with Agra in Uttar Pradesh.

Bhatan Tunnel on Mumbai-Pune Expressway is 1KM long road tunnel with all the possible new technology. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is the first six-lane concrete, high-speed, access controlled tolled expressway.

There are so many other road and railway tunnels in India,such as Khowai in Tripura and Sangar tunnel and latest India’s longest railway tunnel named as Pir Panjal tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir. Other newly constructed Katraj tunnel Pune and Punarjani Guha, a natural tunnel 150 meters long in the rocky cliff in Kerala.
