Monsoon in India really gives one of the best natural scenery, rivers are on full swing, mountains are awake after a long sleep and monsoon decorated the whole valley’s with sparking waterfalls, magnificent lakes, lush green trees and beautiful flowers. Most of the highest waterfalls are found in the mountains area of North East India.

The Garo, Khasi and Jaintia Hills with its unique landscape, climatic phenomenon of heavy cloud cover and torrential rainfall host the highest waterfalls in India. These waterfalls of India are some of the most spectacular in the world. The milky Dudhsagar, Seven Sister fall and Jog waterfalls are the most beautiful and famous waterfalls of India.

Vajrai Falls, Satara- Maharashtra – 560 metres (1,840 ft)

As per wiki – current list of waterfalls in India by height is Vajrai Falls of Maharashtra, located on the Urmodi river near the city of Satara and has a height of 560 meters.

Kunchikal Falls, Karnataka – 455m (1,493 ft)

The Kunchikal falls is the highest waterfalls in India and second highest in Asia. The tallest waterfall of India with a height of  1,493 ft is located near Agumbe in Shimoga district of Karnataka. Agumbe valley is among the places in India that receive very heavy rainfall and it has the only permanent rain forest research station in India.

The India’s biggest waterfall is formed by the Varahi river and lies in the Western Ghats. The Ghats is well famous for its Giant Indian squirrel, Indian bullfrog and other unique birds, rare reptiles and bizarre wild animals.

Barehipani Falls, Odisha – 399 metres (1,309 ft)

The Barehipani is a picturesque waterfall situated in the core area of Simlipal National Park in Mayurbhanj district of Orissa. This waterfall is second highest waterfalls of India with a height of 712 ft. The gorgeous fall is surrounded by deep forest which again adds the wildness to its beauty.

This two-tiered’ waterfall is originating near the Bay of Bengal. The Barehipani and Joranda falls are counted amongst the most popular attractions of tribal state Orissa.

Nohkalikai Falls, Meghalaya – 340m (1115 feet)

The Nohkalikai falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in India. It is located near Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on Earth in East Khasi Hills district Meghalaya. The 3rd highest waterfalls in India with a height of 1,120 ft. Cherrapunji is very famous for Hills, rainfall, living bridges and oranges.

The other highest and popular waterfalls in Meghalaya are Nohsngithiang falls and Kynrem falls, These are also counted in top 10 highest water falls in India.

Nohsngithiang Falls, Meghalaya – 315m (1,033 ft)

During the monsoon season however, the falls are transformed into one of the most powerful falls in India. Dudhsagar waterfalls are among top 100 waterfalls of the world.

Kynrem Falls, Meghalaya – 305m (1,001 ft)

Kynrem Falls is situated inside a beautiful park known as Thangkharang Park,another popular attraction of Cherrapunjee in East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya.

Meenmutty Falls, Kerala – 300m (984 feet)

Thalaiyar Falls, Tamil Nadu – 297m (974 ft)

Barkana Falls, Karnataka – 259m (850 ft)

Barkana Falls formed by Seetha river in Shimoga district of Karnataka and appears only during rainy season. Agumbe in Shimoga district is surrounded by thick forest of Western Ghats and known as Cherrapunji of the South India.

Jog Falls, Karnataka – 253m (830 ft)

It is a pity that the amazing waterfalls in India are not included in the tourist itinery. So it’s existence is largely unknown and unnoticed. That is a tragedy. The Indian tourism Industry should take note of this and make an effort to rectify this mistake.

Being from Meghalaya, I really appreciate your efforts. And I hope you will keep up the wonderful work you are doing. However you may not be aware, but there are some errors in your list that I would like to point out. i)) The photo for Langshiang Falls is wrong. What a beautiful collection of pictures. I was lucky to have seen Jog Falls 50 yrs ago. Now looking at these pictures my grand children want to see some. In Diwali vacation I must take them to 3 or 4. They would remember view all the life. Thank you for Your mission.

Admin u forgot about thosegar waterfall satara maharashtra. Acording to wikipedia it is tallest waterfall of india with height 1600ft.

According to wikipedia, Thosengar falls at satara distric waterfalls is the highest falls in india followed by nohkalikai in khasi hill of meghalaya. Can u clarify on this point?

Sorry but Barehipani waterfalls is 399m…. And yes it is second highest waterfall after kunchikal waterfalls.
