Eight Natural Wonders of North East Sister States

The fascinating land of North East is blessed with nature and the region is still unexplored. Seven Sister States along with one brother Sikkim are known as North East India and home to many natural and geological wonders such as Floating Loktak Lake,Living Roots Bridge and Majuli Island. Other famous wonders of North East also includes Dampa Sanctuary Mizoram,kaziranga sanctuary Assam,Tawang Monastery Arunachal Pradesh, Sela Pass Tawang,Assam Tea Gardens,natural caves of Meghalaya,Spectacular Waterfalls of Meghalaya, Unakoti Hills in Tripura,Madan Kamdev of Assam, Neer Mahal in Tripura.

Majuli Island – Assam


Majuli is the largest river island in the world,located on the river Brahmaputra in Assam. The island is actually a land in the middle of two parallel rivers and the wetland has a rich and diverse species of flora and fauna including migratory pelican, adjutant stork, Siberian crane birds.

Living Roots Bridge – Meghalaya


The living root bridges of Meghalaya are indeed a natural wonder of the state and one of the must-visit destination in India. Double decker living root bridges are found in and around the villages of Shnongpdeng Nongbareh, Khonglah and Padu in the Jaintia and Khasi Hills district.

Ziro Hill Station – Arunachal Pradesh


Ziro Hill station of Arunachal Pradesh is one of the lesser known places of India and hidden gems of North East,Located at an altitude of 300 feet. It has been a favorite town for world heritage site,surrounded by mountains and offers spectacular landscape of the town.

Dzoukou Valley – Nagaland


Dzoukou Valley is the most charming Valleys of Nagaland and one of the most beautiful flower valley of India,located at the border of Nagaland and Manipur. The valley is famous for its wide range of flower in every season,located at an altitude of 2438m and one of the lesser known wonders of India.

Loktak Lake – Manipur


Loktak Lake of Manipur is famous for the floating phumdis and known for Keibul Lamjao the only floating national park in the world. The lake is largest freshwater lake in North East India,located near Moirang and only home to endemic, rare and endangered species of brow-antlered deer called Sangai.

Vantawng Waterfall – Mizoram

Vantawng -Falls

Vantawng Waterfalls of Mizoram is the highest and most spectacular falls of the state,located in south of Thenzawl and surrounded by thick forest. Vantawng fall is the largest waterfall in Mizoram and one of the 13th tallest waterfalls in India.

Sipahijola Sanctuary – Tripura


Sipahijola Wildlife Sanctuary of Tripura is actually a natural botanical and zoological garden with woodland and artificial lake, located in Bishalgarh. Sepahijala is well famous for its clouded leopards,variety of birds, primates,ungulates and reptiles, The most unique bespectacled monkey Phayre’s langur is one of the four species of primates found in the sanctuary.

Gurudongmar Lake – Sikkim


Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world, located at an high altitude of 17,800 ft (5,430 m) in North Sikkim. This high altitude lake is fed by glaciers of the Kanchenjunga range and remains frozen during winter months also the lake is considered to be one of the most beautiful and sacred lakes in India.
