Similarities and Difference Between Parrot and Parakeet

Parrots are among the most intelligent and colorful birds, found in most tropical and subtropical regions. Macaws are the largest species of Parrot, found in South America and Budgerigar are popular pets around the world.



Parrot is a broad term used to subdivide the colorful superfamilies of Psittacoidea, Cacatuoidea and the Strigopoidea. Parrot family includes the most beautiful birds in the bird kingdom, different types of parrots found are macaws, cockatoos and New Zealand parrot.

  • Vernal Hanging Parrot



Parakeet is one of the small to species of parrot with long tail feathers like Budgerigar and Malabar Parakeet. The most commonly seen parakeet in the Indian Subcontinent are Alexandrine Parakeet,Rose Ringed Parakeet and Plum Headed Parakeet.

Lories and Lorikeets


Lories and Lorikeets are the most beautiful rainbow colors birds and have very brightly coloured plumage. Lorikeets and Lories birds are group of small sized arboreal parrots, widely distributed throughout the Australasian region.

Macaw: Macaw are colourful New World parrots and largest flying parrot species.
Cockatoo: Cockatoo are medium to large parrots, Foundonly in Australasia, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Lovebirds: Lovebirds are small parrot native to Madagascar.
Kakapo: Kakapo is flightless,nocturnal and ground-dwelling parrot from New Zealand.
Conures: Conures are either large parakeets or small parrots found in the Western Hemisphere.
