Difference Between Butterfly and Dragonfly

Both butterflies and dragonflies along with Moths and Damselflies are belong to the same kingdom Animalia. Although they both share similar type of characteristics but they both from different order, Dragonflies and Damselflies are Odonata and Butterflies and Moths are from order Lepidoptera.



Butterflies are insects from Kingdom Animalia from the order Lepidoptera which includes moths too. The Butterflies feed on nectar in flowers and use camouflage and mimicry to evade their predators.

Moths and butterflies are closely related but Moths species are nocturnal, There are approximately 10,000 species of moths are to be found in India.



Dragonflies are flying insect from same Kingdom of Animalia having two pairs of strong transparent wings and compound eyes. Dragonflies are true predators and belong to Odonata order of carnivorous insects.

– Damselfly


Damselflies are also carnivorous insects of Odonata order having smaller and slender bodies. All damselflies are predatory including nymphs which are aquatic, living in a variety of freshwater habitats.
