The state of Madhya Pradesh has highest number of tiger population in India by 2023 Tiger Census with the presence of 526 Tigers in India. There are seven tiger reserves in Madhya Pradesh including the newest addition known as Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve in Damoh district.

Karnataka – 524

Uttarakhand – 442

The beautiful land or Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has third highest number of wild tigers in India with 442 according to a census in 2012-23. Tiger spotted at high altitude of mountains at 7000 ft height in Binsar wildlife sanctuary of Uttarakhand.

Tamil Nadu – 229

As per Survey, there are 229 tigers in Tamil Nadu by 2023 and the figure is an increase from the last big cats survey in India. Mudumalai Tiger Reserve is the most popular tiger reserve in Tamil Nadu and all 5 tiger reserves of Tamil Nadu are managed by NTCA.

Maharashtra – 190

There are six dedicated tiger reserves in Maharashtra and Melghat was among the first nine tiger reserves under the Project Tiger. Tadobo Andhari Tiger Reserve has the highest number of tiger in Maharashtra state and among all the other Indian states, Maharashtra has the fifth largest tiger population in India and counting.

Assam – 167
